goodbye kutesocial, hello driftlet
hi again. if you’ve been following my stuff, you probably noticed i disappeared off the face of the internet for a while. if you were waiting on kutesocial… yeah, sorry about that 😅
truth is, kutesocial became a complete mess.
what started as a fun, cozy idea spiraled into this overcomplicated beast that tried to do way too much at once. i wanted it to be the platform aka customizable profiles, social feeds, blogging, link hubs, and more
and then i lost the spark.
every time i opened the repo, it felt heavier. nothing was ever “good enough” to launch. and i just got burnt out trying to make it perfect.
so i’m starting over.
introducing driftlet
driftlet is an open-source portfolio blogging platform.
that’s it. simple, minimal, focused.
no bloated feeds. no unnecessary complexity. just you, your blog posts, your links, and your little corner of the internet.
current features:
- create & edit posts
- customize branding (i mean the header)
- add a readme/about me
- add a crap ton of links
and the best part?
you can already self-host it, even though it's not "complete" which is already more than i can say for kutesocial 😭
lessons learned:
- don’t strive for perfection for v1
get something working, then improve it later. - complexity kills passion
building something simple and usable beats aiming for the stars and burning out.
so yeah, i’m no longer working on kutesocial. i still love the idea behind it, but it’s just too much for me right now. maybe someday. but for now?
i'm starting fresh, and new.
if you wanna check it out, maybe even host your own it's right over here:

thanks for reading. and sorry again for vanishing.
